Our Recommendations: Jade Mountain

Rising majestically above the 600 acre beach front resort of Anse Chastanet, Jade Mountain St.Lucia is a cornucopia of organic architecture celebrating St Lucia’s stunning scenic beauty. The bold architectural design – individual bridges leading to exceptional infinity pool sanctuaries and rugged stoned-faced columns reaching towards the sky – makes Jade Mountain St.Lucia one of the Caribbean’s most mesmerizing resort experiences.

Expect grand sweeping spaces where bedroom, living area and an extravagant private infinity pool glide into one another to form extraordinary platforms floating out into nature. With the fourth wall entirely absent, Jade Mountain’s sanctuaries are stage-like settings from which to embrace the full glory of St Lucia’s Pitons World Heritage Site, and of course, the eternal Caribbean Sea. A wide range of spa services can be enjoyed in the privacy of the Jade Mountain sanctuaries or at Kai en Ciel, Jade Mountain’s boutique spa and fitness studio.

The Jade Mountain St.Lucia sanctuaries are deliberately techno-free; there are no telephones, radio or television. Internet access is available at reception and upon guest request, internet can be made available in the individual sanctuaries also. The resort major domos and a dedicated resort team ensure outstanding service around the clock.

Enjoy the exclusivity and privacy of Jade Mountain with all of sister resort Anse Chastanet’s restaurants, bars, boutiques, art gallery, spa, scuba, bike and watersports facilities as well as 2 soft sand beaches available to Jade Mountain guests at all times.

Let’s Talk Hockey fundraiser to take centre ice this week

Let’s Talk Hockey fundraiser to take centre ice this week

Sept. 12, 2011, Calgary, AB – The PREP Program’s 9th annual Let’s Talk Hockey fundraiser takes centre ice in Calgary this week with a goal to surpass $1M fundraised to date, and also to say fare well and thank you to co-founder and host Kelly Hrudey.

Held in support of those with Down syndrome, the Sept. 17th event marks the final year that Hrudey, former NHL goalie and current colour commentator for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, will act as the official host for the evening. The festivities take place at Flames Central with the highlight being live interviews with celebrity guests Brent Sutter, head coach of the Calgary Flames and Clint Malarchuk, goaltending coach.

“All of us at The PREP Program are deeply thankful for Kelly’s nine years of dedication and service to Let’s Talk Hockey,” said Barbara Tien, executive director of The PREP Program. “To-date, this event has raised close to one million dollars for our community – thanks to Kelly, our donors, sponsors and guests. Kelly will be honoured with a one of a kind gift by artist Sam Hester.

The first period will feature Jim Ralph, former goalie and comedian. The Calgary Flames’ mascot, Harvey the Hound, is also set to make a special appearance.

Highlights of the night include a raffle for a $10,000 Harry Rosen makeover and , as spokesperson for The Discovery Club, a luxury travel club that offers members owner-like access to the world’s finest hotels and resorts , Hrudy will be auctioning off a dream trip valued at over $4,700.

“This is going to be an evening of surprises and fun – and all for such great kids at PREP” said Kelly Hrudey. “Considering the calibre of prizes we’ve seen donated so far, I’m fairly confident that we’ll cross the $1 million mark during the Let’s Talk Hockey night. For me, sharing in this milestone before I step down would be the ultimate reward.”

“The Clubhouse”

Posted on by Rachel

By Kevin Walker, Owner

At different times we have spoken of our other project, in the form of the new and emerging Oak Bay Beach Hotel, scheduled for opening in the Spring of 2012.

Many of you are from outside the Victoria area, and probably have not had a chance to see our completed structure in the last while…so we thought it might be fun to bring you up to date on what is sure to be one of the worlds foremost travel destinations. And truly a signature affiliate in our club catalogue.

It is often referred to as our Discovery Club “Clubhouse”, for it is here that our members will find advantages and benefits only available to Discovery Club members. Imagine a place that provides timeless old world architecture, set on the Pacific Ocean, where the whales and eagles pay regular visits to your doorstep. Picture yourself seaside, literally, soaking in the hot therapeutic mineral pools, or enjoying a spa moment of pedicures and manicures and massage, then maybe retire to the Grand Lobby for a relaxing glass of Port, or a Hot Chocolate in Kate’s Café. And recently we announced that the new Oak Bay Beach Hotel will be home to the David Foster Foundation Theatre, where you can take in a live dinner theatre show or a movie, and of course The Snug, world famous already, will be making its triumphant return.  And all of this is yours to enjoy and your Discovery Club membership will afford you access to a range of benefits  that extend beyond just accommodation.

Your membership ensures that you always get first notice of all the special events we have planned. We have set aside a very special block of rooms for Club Members, and you will be amazed at their views, their size and the remarkable services (Butler, Concierge, Valet, Chef’s on call, and more).
We will encourage you to continue to travel the world because that is what Discovery Club membership is all about…but then you will have a place to call home, right here in Victoria BC, on the seashore.

We are very excited to share this great destination with you. Be sure to check out the website www.oakbaybeachhotel.com and we’ll see you there in the Spring of 2012

Happy Travels

Our Recommendation…Britain

By Therese Eley, Director of Member Services

Rumoured to be the place where Kate Middleton will spend the night before her wedding, The Goring is regarded as the favourite address for anyone looking for the quintessentially English hotel in the heart of London.

Back in 1910, O.R. Goring, founded the hotel that has carried the family name ever since.

A man of great vision, O.R. Goring persuaded the Duke Of Westminster to sell the plot of land at the Buckingham Palace end of what was to become Beeston Place, where he razed the Sun public house and a string of cottages to make way for the last grand hotel to be built in the Edwardian era. Our Recommendation…Paris

By Brooklyn Greig, Director of Affiliate Properties

Le Burgundy – Paris, France

The elegant and forever fashionable spirit of Paris is evident at Le Burgundy, a boutique hotel that opts to whisper its charms as opposed to shouting them from the rooftops. Delicately poised where the rue Duphot meets the rue Saint-Honoré, in the wings of the Champs-Elysées-Madeleine-Opéra “Golden Triangle”, this quietly chic hotel brings a light dimension to Parisian life.

Paris is well known for its fashion, romance, song, cuisine, and appreciation for the arts. What outsiders sometimes miss, though, is the grace and balance its residents and purveyors exude when displaying them to the world. This display is very evident at Le Burgundy, a virtual case study in what makes Paris great.

Le Burgundy honors the arts by way of Guy de Rougemont’s marble puzzle sculpture in the front lobby. And one cannot over look the culinary arts, which get their fair share of exposure at the Restaurant and Winter Garden, where Parisian classics are prepared with a creative spirit.

Our Recommendation…Costa Rica

By Brooklyn Greig, Director of Affiliate Properties

Latitude 10 Exclusive Beach Resort – Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Tucked amongst the native vegetation, lie Latitude 10’s five casitas. Each private bungalow is uniquely and luxuriously appointed, with its own personality and vibe.

The private casitas are constructed from almond wood and decorated with local art and handiwork. You might find an easel with a painting propped in the corner, or a coconut broken in half and filled with sand and tea lights, or a ladder made with bamboo set against the bathroom wall. Each room has its own treasures for you to discover and enjoy. (more…)
