1. Not only will it be home to London’s 2012 Summer Olympic Games, but England is also the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games. Dr William Penny Brookes, a doctor from Much Wenlock in Shrewsbury, revived the ancient Greek tradition of the Olympic Games when he founded the Wenlock Olympian society in 1850 with his three-day festival of games. The Games became an annual event and included Greek Classical and country sports such as running, football and cricket, but also a competition for “juveniles” and such fun competitions as a “blind wheelbarrow race” or “an old woman’s race for a pound of tea”. Travel Dreams…Ireland

Trim Castle, Ireland

I know I should probably be reserving this post for sometime closer to St. Patrick’s Day, but in honor of one of my oldest friends coming back to Victoria for a visit after being in Ireland for the past 2 ½ years, I just had to write it now! He chose to follow his heart and move there, while his girlfriend waits to be able to move to Canada permanently. Over the past 2 ½ years I’ve seen his photos, received his email updates and gotten a pretty good idea of what life in Ireland is like. I’ve always known that Tahiti was a beautiful place, and thought that one day I might go there. But since seeing it on the show its now a place I HAVE to go! So, as I lay in my tent cold, wet and miserable, (more…)

I’m a lucky lady… My “job” involves spending a fair amount of time researching the most amazing travel destinations on the planet. Our philosophy is: our Members deserve nothing but the best this world has to offer – so my colleague, Brooklyn, and I scour the world (and the web) for those spectacular hotels and resorts that match this lofty standard.

Looking out over the Juan de Fuca Strait in Victoria, BC

I haven’t travelled a lot. I’ve been to Mexico, Barbados, and most recently Florida. Living in Victoria and Vancouver my whole life I’ve of course been to various locations in BC, Alberta and Washington State, but in my books those don’t count. (Ok ok I’ve also been to Disneyland, but I was 13 and that definitely doesn’t count) (more…)
